Red bag / Красная сумочка

This painting was inspired by the photo of a Dutch lady made by Andrew Greening. When I saw the old lady I imagined her going from the flower market with a bunch of flowers, full of positive emotions. To me, the red bag says: I am still young and full of life, I want to enjoy this spring in my own way!

Art class - lesson 2 / Арт-школа - урок № 2

Yesterday we finished our beloved satyr. "Beloved" - because it was not the first time we met. Our other passion - "Apollosha" with his wonderful curly hair and a bow (below).

On my way back home I noticed this guy. Isn't he touching?

Back to art class!

Yesterday was the first day of our second-year art class. My classmates are all new but the teacher fortunately is the same. His name is Alexander Lapko and he is very honoured artist and teacher. He is going to have an exhibition soon (in October), and I hopefully will be able to make some shots there. All students seemed to be quite talented at first site, most of them were doing plain-air studies in summer.

As you can see this lesson was just a warm-up: satyr mask and some geometric objects.
Laying down on the floor is a student's homework.
There were more cool portraits and landscapes from students but I didn't manage to make shots somehow. Too little space and not knowing all the people could be my excuse:))

Information for Moscow residents: I am a student of Architecture and Design school. Apart from good teachers and interesting courses I appreciate a warm and creative atmosphere there.

Chinese painting

When I said I started to paint in 2009 it was not completely true. My first attempt was with chinese painting; I began to admire it in 2003 when I visited an exhibition of Wang Liushi. She is a former Russian lady (now Canadian) who is a real master of chinese ink.
I myself began to learn chinese painting in 2004 but in some time I understood that I could not reconcile with the restrictions of this specific art (limited number of themes, ways you should make your brushstrokes etc.). I wanted to express more but I could not by means of guo-hua.
Besides, chinese painting was not forgiving to mistakes, to little shake of the brush, to your  mind distracted (just a little bit) by a phone call or a child's cry. I had to start a single work over and over again.
So... right now you can look through my works and maybe understand what I am saying. All paintings are done in 2004-2005.

Art class nostalgia

It's almost a year I haven't been to my art school (due to some health issues). Found old photos dated 2009 and remembered our first day there. Almost nobody could draw. 9 ladies aged 18-50, we soon found common themes. We discussed almost everyting while working on our first drawings (of course when our teacher was away).
Once we were in a playful mood and made fun of our drawing dummies.
